Hello from my new neighborhood in New York, NY. I made it to the big apple, as they say. I feel cozy in my new apartment and I finally feel settled in. The autumn leaves are changing and I’m so excited to see their color form different hues. A little background from me: I’m from Florida and moved to Los Angeles, CA back in 2005…. So, I’ve never lived in an area with true seasons. Sure I have visited areas with seasons, stayed in cabins next to fireplaces as I watched the snow fall, only for a short while. Those Christmas inspired winter short whiles doesn’t compare to actually living in a place that snows. My friends laughed a little at me when I told them I’m moving to a city that has a real winter. They know I’m such a sun baby. I guess I did chase the sun, Florida to California. I know the cold is gonna be a shock to my system, but a shock is what I want and crave right now. I was so jaded and stagnant in Los Angeles. I didn’t know how to live there anymore, so I picked up and moved across the country.
Okay, so I’m here. I’m calling my NY moment, my Nora Ephron inspired moment. I’m calling this phase of my life Nora Ephron because I’m writing a love story that I will direct. I hope my writing and filmmaking life shifts here, evolves.
Hopefully writing less horror and more about feelings, and matters of the heart. I mean don’t get me wrong, I will always put some eerie, spooky twist into all of my work. I’ll always be a little goth emo. We shall see what I really create here, I think this change is gonna be amazing for me. Going into a new birth year soon and I’m wanna be like the moon, an energy that embraces all their phases.
This post might be all over the place.
I painted with oil the other day. I knew living here will get me to paint again. New York brings the artist out of people. I did some art in LA, but mostly ink. I still love ink. But I have to say, painting with oil makes me feel like a real artist.
I started painting from a picture, but then it turned abstract. I was puzzled at first as to what to paint/draw. I thought, maybe a still from a movie that I was apart of. That thought just made me paint something else. While I painted this editorial picture of an actor. I realized, that I was craving to paint somebody, somebody special. And maybe this editorial picture wasn’t making me feel special. So I decided to lean on the abstract and put the photo away. So now it’s a mystery of who this person is, because this person isn’t real. It’s funny what my mind was doing while I was painting, I was over thinking the subject matter, a lot. And craving something more thoughtful that hugs my heart a little more. Anyway, I’ll get there, hopefully. I painted at a Ridgewood art studio with my two friends, Jack and Alex. I’m gonna paint more, stay tuned.
I’m gonna go now. I have writing to do. My cat is sitting next to me and a candle is lit as dinner is being cooked in the kitchen.
Love you.
